In general, the remembrance of Allah drowns sorrows: when the light of the Infinite shines on our hearts, the shadows of finite concerns scatter.
Allah the Most Highest of All said,
“Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” [Qur’an]
One dhikr that the scholars have found to be particularly effective is the famous Salat al-Tibbiyya.
Salatul Tibbiyya is a famous durood. Our scholars say that it is good to recite this salawaat when one is depressed or sick.
Allahumma Salli `ala Sayyidina Muhammadin
Tibbil qulubi wa dawaa’ihaa
Wa nuril absari wa dhiya’ihaa
Wa `afiyatil abdaani wa shifaa’haa
Wa `ala Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Sallim.

O Lord! Send blessings on our master Muhammad,
The medicine of hearts and their cure,
The light of eyes and their illumination,
The health of bodies and their healing,
And upon his family and companions, send peace.
Cure for depression and distress.

This has cure and treatment for ninety-nine different calamties and misfortunes. Distress is the lowest degree amongst them.
Recite the Kalima Sharif 60 times daily, then blow into some water and drink it. It will greatly ease depression. [InshâAllâh]
